Specialty Tea Company Demystifies and Unleashes the
Goodness of Tea
(SAN RAFAEL, Calif.) – September 20, 2004– Proving that
tea can be exciting, flavorful and portable, Mighty Leaf
Tea Company introduces its line of black, green and herbal
whole leaf tea and tea blends in its proprietary Tea
Pouch™. Husband and wife co-founders Gary Shinner and Jill
Portman launched Mighty Leaf Tea after operating San
Francisco’s groundbreaking Tea & Company World Tea House
with the intention of modernizing the way tea is made,
consumed and served.
“We started Mighty Leaf out of our passion for the taste
and health benefits of whole leaf tea,” says Gary Shinner.
“In the process of running our tea house we sought to take
the mystery out of fine tea by developing our patented Tea
Pouch™ and Tea Top™ – a portable teapot. Now, by focusing
on our food service customers, we hope to bring the Mighty
Leaf experience to a mass audience.”
Shinner and Portman bring a uniquely American palate and
sensibility to Mighty Leaf Tea. “Our tea blends are
created to deliver great clarity, full flavor, mouth feel
and a long finish by using only the best whole tea leaves,
botanicals, fruits and natural flavors we can find,” says
Jill Portman. “Our teas can be enjoyed alone or paired
with food.”
Not content to just sell the best tea available, Shinner
and Portman went one step further – by making their tea
easy-to-brew and portable. They found that conventional
paper tea bags couldn’t accommodate their whole leaf tea
blends nor did they allow for full flavor expansion.
Instead, Shinner and Portman use clear food grade mesh for
their Tea Pouch™ and invented the Tea Top™ – a lid with a
raised compartment that contains the pouch once it is done
steeping.
“With our Tea Pouch™ and Tea Top™ we hope to bring the
goodness of our tea to as wide an audience as possible,”
says Shinner.
Mighty Leaf Tea Pouches come in 14 varieties of black,
green and herbal blends including Organic Darjeeling
Choice Estate, Green Tea Tropical, Chamomile Citrus and
