Regarded as a powerful antioxidant, Rooibos tea is currently being used by many for anti-HIV activity, and may have anti-tumor potential. Regular use of Rooibos tea may have anti-aging properties and has been shown is some studied to prevent age-related accumulation of lipid peroxides in several regions of the brains of some test animals.

Rooibos tea is made from the South African plant Aspalathus linearis. Also known as Red-Bush tea because of its color, Rooibos tea and grows in higher mountain elevations in a region just north of Cape Town. Some clinical researchers utilize Rooibos tea for treating nervous tension, allergies (dermatitis), and various digestive ailments. Recent research has also suggested that Rooibos tea may be beneficial as an antioxidant based on is high Flavonoid content.
